How We Help

"Older women that have been homeless face very limited options. Many have lost employment, their families and their home. Rootless, they face a future of homelessness and loneliness."

Women can live at St. Clare Inn for a maximum of one year. The length of each woman's stay will vary depending on her unique needs and circumstances. We encourage each woman to set goals at the beginning of her stay. These objectives will help to evaluate her growth.

We are staffed throughout the day and work with each resident individually to assess her situation, determine her future goals and then develop a plan for how best to achieve these objectives.

A day in the life of a St. Clare resident
For women living at the Inn, their roles and responsibilities are set up to recreate what happens in normal daily life. Of course, for most of our residents, their previous lives were anything but normal, as most people know the term. But here, our goal is to introduce normalcy by providing a warm, inviting atmosphere based upon the promotion of safety, harmony and respect.

Our goal is to provide a home where our guests can relax, feel secure and re-build their torn lives and self-esteem. This is "The Way of Life" at St. Clare.

All residents take part in the daily care of their personal space and the general care of the Inn. Women come together to prepare and share dinner each day. This provides an opportunity for the women to develop and rebuild independence and social skills. Violence towards self, other residents or staff is not acceptable.

The Inn is a smoke-free environment and the consumption of alcohol or illegal substances is not allowed. Residents and staff meet weekly to assess the needs of the women and the program at the Inn in general.

Residents are expected to keep professional appointments, seek or participate in work/volunteer activities, attend support groups necessary for growth and healing, and to make life healthy choices.

Our support extends into the area of finding permanent and affordable housing that will provide women with a stable living environment. An essential part of recovery is finding a home.
