St. Clare Inn provides community, care and shelter for homeless women with mental health issues along with support for their healing journey.
St. Clare Inn will provide a network of nurturing places where women will successfully transition to the broader society, through a community model of supportive care.
St. Clare Inn offers accommodation and support to women between the ages of 30 and 60, who are homeless and struggling with mental health challenges. St. Clare Inn is not a shelter; it is a transitional home and a place where women can live with dignity while rebuilding their lives. Within this safe, drug and alcohol free environment where respect, peace, safety, and dignity are key values, women can begin to heal and start to build a better future.
Since 2007, St. Clare Inn, has given many women a second chance; an opportunity to bring meaning back into their lives and regain independence. Inspired by the death of Linda—a homeless middle-aged woman who was often seen on the streets in Don Mills—St. Clare Inn is dedicated to providing women with an alternative to living on the streets. An option that Linda never had.
Linda's death drew attention to the plight of women who struggle daily, living alone on the streets with mental health illness. Her death was the catalyst for the creation of St. Clare Inn. Located in Toronto, the Inn is a registered charity established by the Friends of Saint Francis Inc., a group of professional lay men and women and Franciscan Friars.
